My CAD Project

Post by Falinx on Sun May 04, 2008 4:17 am

I didn't know where to put this and I hope it works. The video doesn't give the blender justice. I had to design an electric blender from scratch for my Computer Aided Engineering class at ASU. Mind you this is only a 1, I repeat, ONE, credit class (ridiculous, needs to be 2 or 3 for the work required). I know it's not real and is missing a lot of stuff (like wiring), but it wasn't required since we only had to do the mechanical design. I could've continued but once again.. it is only a one credit class. Also we had to do a presentation on it and apparently I went way overboard compared to other people. Hope this works, let me know what you guys think:

Wow, I'm really bored, I hope my wife comes home soon so I quit boring you all. But anyway, here's a cut away section view that shows the "motors" that power seperate drive shafts that disconnect at the base of the blender. The mating of the drive shafts is a cross section cut out of each drive shaft the meet together. I originally had both gears powered on the same axis from one motor but they were being stupid about the requirements (afterwards I found out if I wouldn't just thrown a turd on a piece of paper and turned it in I would've been par with the rest of the class).

Warning, Nerd Talk:
The cap can be removed and locks in place. On top of the lid it says "Caution, lid must be in place while in use". Come to think of it, if you didn't have the lid, how would you know it has to be in place? Anyway, I made 4 blending speeds, Grind, Blend, Something Else and Frappe. Oh, and those are my intials engraved in the back.

If I didn't have any project constraints on it then the top blade would actually move up and down while it's spinning.

why would you want the top blade to move up and down while it's spinning? is it to ensure that the entire substance is blended uniformly? because i think there are blades that promote uniform blending...

Yeah that would be the idea. Those blades are design to blend it uniformly. I just think it would be sweet! I mean, who would have two motors for a blender anyway, like I said, its a few steps from reality.

reminds me of a fable about the painter and the snake...

long time ago, an emperor held a snake-painting contest for all the top painters in his land. so, all the top painters gathered to paint a snake for the emperor. about 10 minutes into the contest, one painter finished their snake while the remaining painters were still painting. this one painter looked at the painted snake and decided because he finished painting before anyone else that he would paint something special: he painted legs on his snake...

Lol, that's a perfect analogy. I'm going to try and design the shell of this car that I want to own. I won't say what it is until I actually make it, because if its junk, well I'll just say I'm trying to make Scion tB and just make a block.

Of course, it also has a setting for frappe for all of the lighter shakes you would like to drink, really whips it up.
